Re"think"ing about Think2019

I love joking around titles name, is always fun : )

Well..  great days, two years in a row and IBM is continuosly doing well in every cloud aspect but let me be specific.

DAY 1: Community Day

Embracing and driving the community is one of the key point for IBM, you can't do anything without a good community and also good speaker to share knowledge and vision about the incoming year! My champion managers Libby and Sarah are doing well like always ( I can't forget the face of Sarah on how was tired that day!! Great job Sarah! )

Another note is for project Debater, I remember the enormous spam when Google AI did a phone call to take an appointment for an hair cut, what we can do now when you discuss with an AI about economics and social topics!? Kudos to Harish Natarajan for his debate!

DAY 2:  Chairman Keynote

Clear, Direct, Simple skills difficult to manage when you facing thousand of people that you need to inspire and drive but this what Ginny Rometty is doing over the years and let me be simple as well:

  • AI everywhere, on premise , off premise, public cloud but not limited to the IBM Cloud!
  • Hybrid Cloud is our future and Multicloud will be a driven for many companies!
  • Responsible Stewardship, It’s about conducting business with trust, transparency and purpose.
More details here.

DAY 3 , 4 , 5: My personal Agenda

Personally I was lucky because I spent most of my time with the OpenLiberty team. If you think about WebSphere Liberty and OpenLiberty like to WebSphere Application Server, JBoss, WildFly, WebLogic, Tomcat you are wrong..

Liberty in general is something of unique in the market, these are most of my personal reason:
  • modular features
  • performance
  • developer oriented
  • cloud ready from the first day of its first breath
WebSphere liberty born in 2012 with the cloud DNA and OpenLiberty in 2017 was not a gift to the community but something to share and let fly in the in the opensource world, take a look to the site https://openliberty.io to learn more about it, the other thing you need to take care is the underline java virtual machine, openliberty use as prefered JVM openj9 like WebSphere Liberty use IBM J9 but in both case you can pick your  prefered JVM, my personal advice is to start to spend time and learn J9 because the performance improvement and the maturity of this JVM is really great than the others.
Last but really important OpenLiberty is in love with MicroProfile and SpringBoot!
Thank you Steve Poole, Graham Charters, Alasdair Nottingham, Sebastian Daschner, Emily Jiang for your time and help. ( in the the foto from left to right, Graham, me, Emily, Alasdair )

IBM Cloud Private: Simply Rock Solid! If you want to start your application modernization journey this is the place where to start. Transformation Advisor drive you in the journey, Liberty is your swiss army for all java application, ICP give you the underline to make it real.

IKS: still improving and cutting edge all the things in the kubernetes space, what you think about Istio managed service? Cool right?

Special Thanks to Phil Estes to be at the IBM Champion for linux and container table to share knowledge about containerD and Cloud. I would share a cool picture directly from his hand

So many things to share in a blog post but I hope these simple things can help you to understand the value, effort of IBM about JAVA Cloud and Application Modernization journey.
